Great great great!

I absolutely love this beat--*this* is real hip hop, not the garbage they play on the radio. It reminds me of some of the great independent stuff I used to play on my radio show back in the day.

My biggest criticism is that some of your transitions are choppy; you should try to avoid letting samples just cut off suddenly. You should also make an effort to find more samples to weave in, or at least toy with the beat--that will help keep it from getting repetitive. See if you can find the old Tomfoolio tracks Son of Drifter and Sleepwalker; those are good examples of what I'm talking about.

war-spawn responds:

Making transitions with samples is easier said than done. Whenever I sample something, I listen to the entire thing about 5 times, just to get an idea from it. Then from there, I take what I can. I do my best to use as much as possible, but there's times where things just don't go as well as you'd expect them to. That's pretty much what happened with the transitions in this one. The sample its self didn't even follow a standard hip-hop song time signature, so I had to cut a lot out.

Wonderful!

This song is beautiful. I love how you manage to make it feel very effortless and smooth, yet keep me guessing about the song's progression. Touching yet original, natural yet unpredictable. You, sir, get a 10.

mjattie responds:

thanks Mal XD I'm glad you liked it.

I have one question, for you. I don't know why this song gets much attention, so could you please pm me where you found this song? :)

Spectacular

The name of the song put me off from listening to it at first, but this is simply gorgeous, and quite well-produced to boot. I also just love how it ends.

I do feel like there's a bit too much attack on the strings after 2:30, though. That section feels like a more natural fit for legato. Overall, though, great job!

PhilVille responds:

Haha Really? Well i'm glad you pointed that out to me, I'll keep an eye on that next time. hmm legato does seem like a good Idea I'll try and use that to my advantage next time.
Thank you for your input and come again!

Awesome!

Wow, this song is just fantastic: beautiful melody, well produced, well played, keeps itself fresh through constant variations on the theme...really, this is just great. I'm so glad I found this. It makes me want to write an orchestral accompaniment to the last portion of the song, not because it needs it, but just because it would be fun to have that extra cinematic aspect to it. :)

Sonofkirk responds:

Thanks for the support dude ! I'm glad you liked it : ) Writte an orchestral accompaniment if you want, it'd be awesome ; ). metaleuforever@hotmail.fr

Thanks for the good review man \m/

I love it!

I love how this piece just meanders--it would make wonderful background music for a mystery game. More than that, the eerily beautiful melody would fit right in on the Donnie Darko soundtrack. Excellent work!

Flash-MX responds:

Thanks for the review, good words mean much coming from an artist I respect as much!

I have two words for you:

Bad. Ass.

I love the theme with the woodwinds and xylophone that starts this song off and ends it; it definitely gives you the appropriate sense of "oh crap" that ought to accompany the appearance of any huge boss. :) I also love the way the song suddenly picks up energy at 17 seconds to indicate an intense struggle. The only thing that could have made this better, in my opinion, would have been greater development of that initial theme in the main body of the song. Reagrdless, this is awesome. Great job!

NemesisTheory responds:

You nailed my thoughts exactly! The intro is supposed to be overwhelming, with your friends going crazy over this huge boss, then it slowly begins and suddenly all stops are pulled! :D

And yes, you are correct, it's also one of the things I wanted to add upon but in the end it would've (in my opinion) lengthened the song maybe a bit too much! :o

I'm glad you liked it! :)

Ha!

This made me laugh out loud. Awesome job!

Bobert-Rob responds:

Awesome, that's what I made it for. Thanks for listening!

Nice

This is probably the only version of Lost Painting I've heard in that particular octave--it gives it a nice airy touch to be played up there, though truth be told I prefer it in its normal, lower octave.

On an unrelated note, I'm somewhat surprised that you found sheet music from Castlevania Symphony of the Night just sitting around a store somewhere! (In case MaestroRage is still curious, by the way, you can tell him that this was composed by Vanessa Mae.)

SolusLunes responds:

Yeah, it's a small music store just down the road a little bit from where I live at the moment.

Ha!

This is brilliant! 'Nuff said. :)

SHADOWFOX2 responds:

Well thank you very much!

This grew on me

I had to listen to this twice before I appreciated how really amazing this piece was. I don't think I've heard anything quite like this before. It sounds like it belongs in a movie, in a montage scene where many people are coming together to accomplish some kind of great feat and ward off disaster, like building an enormous dam to save their city from a flood they know is going to destroy their way of life. One man starts by chopping wood, then he's joined by another. Slowly, people start appearing from everywhere to help. By the time the strings come in, people are literally filling the streets in a full-blown effort to save the city. I found it very stirring! Thank you for making this.

Bosa responds:

I love this story you've brought me today. Just reading your review here has cheered me up a little bit.

I can't really tell you what I had imagined when I made this. Either I can't remember, or I just didn't imagine at all. I believe I may have pictured a gatorade commercial or something, where the all star is making that winning touchdown that brings tears to people's eyes. I really don't know, to be honest.

But thanks for the review and everything, I do enjoy reading what you guys think.
