MalTheDestroyer's News

Posted by MalTheDestroyer - February 4th, 2009

In case you haven't noticed, there are a whole raft of new attacks you can learn as the hero in Telepath RPG Chapter 3. Other cool new features: if you enter the right name for your hero when you start a game, you can access certain cheats. Also, you can now switch your hero's attacks, and there is a small host of new baddies to fight, such as the Bandit Leader, the Ghost, and the Ravinale Swordsman. Meanwhile, work continues on Mission 3! Come check it out.

Work continues on TRPG3. Mission 2 is mostly finished as I write--you can play through every battle and read most of the dialog. I had to code some new features in the combat engine for the Bandit Leader boss; I hope you like it! Check it out here.

Crypt 1 is now in-game! It's a traditional dungeon with puzzles and traps and such, the first of its kind in the Telepath series. I think it turned out well, personally. There will be more where this came from...

To give it a try: go inside the library at the very top of East Ravinale and talk to the guard there. Then talk to the librarian and ask her where all the books went. Once you get the quest from her, leave Ravinale and click Crypt 1 on the map.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Unfortunately, I've been buried in school work over the last few months, so I haven't been able to get much work done on Telepath RPG Chapter 3 lately. I did make some nice updates to the Special Sinister Design Edition of Telepath RPG Chapter 2, however, in that enemies are now pretty smart. (Almost as smart as they are in Telepath RPG Chapter 3!) Head on down to sinisterdesign.net to try it out.

Also, the Telepath RPG Wiki now has over 100 articles. Anythign you want to know about Telepath RPG, you should head on over and see if it's there. Also, feel free to contribute stuff you think it missing. The more articles, the better the wiki!

Last night, just for fun, I started a wiki at wikia.com where people can share their knowledge about the Telepath RPG games with the world.

There are a whole lot of blank pages there right now, so anyone who feels like explaining what a shadowling is, or who Cerzak is, or what the Psy Academy is all about, I'd welcome the help!

In other news, I've released a special version of Telepath RPG Chapter 2 on SinisterDesign.net, featuring smarter enemies, tons of new battles, and a new playable character. If you were a fan of the original TRPG2, you'll probably like the new one even more. :)

Thanks for reading!

For those of you who haven't noticed, Psy Arena is out!

Aside from the various improvements to the enemy AI, graphics, and battle engine over TRPG2, the neat thing about Psy Arena is that more than half of the battles in it were created and contributed by users on the Sinister Design forums. Telepath RPG Chapter 3 has a built-in battle editor that lets you create our own maps from scratch, then share them. It took forever to make, but I think it's worth it. ;)

If you miss the plot and character development of TRPG2, you might want to check out Telepath RPG Chapter 3, currently in public beta over on SinisterDesign.net.

Also, here's a fun little gameplay video made of TRPG3 a few weeks ago:

While work continues on Telepath RPG Chapter 3, I figured I'd update everyone on a couple of new projects we've got going on at Sinister Design:

Psy Arena. Psy Arena is basically Telepath RPG redux: you get a team of characters and take them through a grand tournament with dozens of unique battles. You win, earn money, train your characters, unlock achievements, purchase orbs to give your hero new powers...it's Telepath RPG, minus all the plot and dialog. Turn based strategy enthusiasts are gonna love this one, especially since it uses the new TRPG3 engine! ;) Psy Arena will be out sometime in the next few weeks. Keep an eye out for it!

Telepath Adventures: Shadowling Assassin. This one is still in the concept stages, but the basic idea is that you're a shadowling eager to be inducted into the Assassin's Cult. You end up trapped in a castle occupied by enemy forces, and have to find a way to survive (and maybe even get a little glory out of the equation!) We have a basic platforming engine up and running, which you can check out here. Arrows move, click to shadowport. The current plan is for it to play like a cross between Castlevania and Final Fantasy. There will be more updates on this as it progresses!

Bonus: Telepath Avatars! We're giving out free Telepath RPG avatars over on the Sinister Design forums. They're pretty neat, so go ahead and nab them while you can!

Since I last posted, there have been all kinds of neat additions to the TRPG3 Alpha. Among them:

--24 enemy types and counting, plus new destructible objects on the battlefield!
--There is now a ton of variety in the kinds of battles you can fight! You can fight against time to capture a space, try to protect a dignitary for a certain number of turns, defend your castle, or try to kill the boss before reinforcements arrive. The possibilities are nearly endless!
--It's now possible to make battles that you can run away from!
--You can now train and individually level up the attacks of your characters.
--Townspeople who walk around and stop when they're about to walk into you.

If you haven't had a look at the demo lately, now's a great time to check it out:

We're also accepting submissions for new user-created battles (which you can make in the map editor) and even user-created missions on the Sinister Design forums. Come check it out!
